5 Best Moments from the Star Wars: The Last Jedi Trailer

Written By: Nick Poulimenakos

Well…. That was amazing! The first teaser for the highly anticipated, Star Wars: The Last Jedi, debuted today at Star Wars Celebration in Orlando.  After persistent speculation, Disney has finally unveiled its first look at the next chapter in the journey set in a galaxy far far away.  So, as per usual with entertainment sites, here’s our ranking of the 5 best moments from the Star Wars: The Last Jedi teaser trailer!

  1. Kylo Ren Returns

When we last saw Adam Driver’s feared Knight of Ren, he had just lost a fantastic lightsaber duel against the awakener of the force, Rey.  This trailer doesn’t show too much of Kylo Ren but his presence is definitely felt.  We first see Ren’s mask destroyed on a floor and then the trailer shows him in another saber battle.  Why is the mask destroyed?  Is this Supreme Leader Snoke’s way of completing Ren’s training?  And who is he fighting?  Will Ren face off against Rey once more?  Or will we finally see a long awaited duel between nephew and uncle?

  1. Luke & R2D2

During Star Wars: The Force Awakens, Rey touches Luke Skywalker’s original lightsaber and with that came a force vision that included Luke and R2D2 watching a rising fire. In this trailer, we see the exact same scene from a different angle.   We see all the destruction around the building on fire.  The Last Jedi will, in some way, touch upon how Kylo Ren destroyed the new Jedi Order and the fallout that came from it.  Hopefully this means that viewers will get to witness the real debut of the Knights of Ren and watch as the Jedi Order crumbles once again.

  1. The New Resistance Speeders

I don’t know what they are, but man do they look awesome.  The Last Jedi will also see the debut of new resistance fighter ships and they have the daunting task of going up against the First Order’s brand new, AT-AT walkers.  This looks to be director Rian Johnson’s way of paying homage to The Empire Strikes Back and I am all for it (as long as it’s not a rehash).  The sequence also showcases how beautiful this film will actually look, something that Rian Johnson films are known for.  Then there’s the red smoke.  Just… amazing…

  1. Rey trains under Luke

What a gorgeous shot.  This trailer focuses on Rey and her journey to becoming a Jedi and viewers will finally get a glimpse at what Rey is doing on the island.  We first see Rey harness the power of the force by slowly raising the rocks around her off the ground; sound familiar?  We then move to one of the most exciting moments of the video.  As the screen is black, a lightsaber faintly ignites; and then we see it.  A helicopter shot of Rey swinging her lightsaber as Luke watches from above, talking her through the training she is experiencing.  Simply epic.

  1. “It’s time for the Jedi, to end”

WHAT DOES HE MEAN? As the trailer winds down, Luke somberly talks to Rey and says that the Jedi must end.  This will unquestionably be the most repeated line of the teaser.  What Luke means by this is unclear at the moment.  Is he speaking to the Jedi ending so something else can rise above? Or did he completely lose all faith in the light side of the force when his own nephew burnt the Order to the ground?  Daisy Ridley did say at Star Wars Celebration that Rey meeting Luke won’t have the outcome that Rey was expecting.  Only time will tell…

That’s our list! Think we got something wrong? Let us know in the comments and on social media and for all things in entertainment and nerd culture, keep it locked on Talkies Network!
