In March 2016, Sony announced plans for its own Marvel Shared Universe with Venom being the first entry into the franchise. A year later, Kevin Feige confirmed that Venom would not be connected to the Marvel Cinematic Universe and that Venom and Spider-Man: Homecoming were two completely separate entities. Tom Hardy was then confirmed to be playing Eddie Brock and Ruben Fleischer was brought on as director. Now it would seem that plans have changed thanks to an interview with producer Amy Pascal and Kevin Feige himself.
In the interview below, Pascal says that both the Venom film and the Black Cat/Silver Sable film will exist “in the world they are building with Peter Parker.” This seemingly confirms that both films with take place within the Marvel Cinematic Universe. Pascal also spoke about the possibility of Tom Holland appearing in either film to which she responded with “there is always a chance.” Click on the link below to watch the snippet of the interview.

Personally, I’d take all of this with a grain of salt. Kevin Feige has recently once again stated that Venom takes place outside of the MCU. But this interview took place after that and Feige looks surprised when he hears Pascal talking. Truthfully I’m hoping Venom takes place inside the MCU because, well who wouldn’t want Tom Hardy mixing it up with Tom Holland? But for now, this should be considered a rumor.
Spider-Man: Homecoming swings into theatres on July 7, 2017 while Venom hits theatres on October 5, 2018
