Female led superhero films may have tanked critically and commercially in the past but those days are over. Wonder Woman has managed to change public opinions with a critically acclaimed story and a box office performance of $650 million+.  DC fans don’t seem to be the only ones who love the film as the president of Marvel Studios himself has now spoken out about his love for the Amazon warrior.

In an interview with Yahoo! Movies, Kevin Feige discussed his upcoming work in the Marvel Cinematic Universe and the success of Wonder Woman. Feige stated that he couldn’t get enough of Wonder Woman:

“The success of Wonder Woman is awesome, and just puts to rest the fallacy that people don’t want to see female superheroes.”

“I’ve always been a fan of the character, and I thought what they did with the film was perfect. To see another period superhero film was awesome.”

Feige continued on the topic, saying that as a child, he used to pretend and act like he was the superhero from Themyscira:

“I remember pretending to deflect bullets off of my wrists and spinning around to get a costume on?”

Wonder Woman is the first film in the DC Extended Universe to be both commercially and critically successful, earning an incredible 92% rating on Rotten Tomatoes. The film recently passed $300 million at the domestic box office and is now on track to out-gross all three DCEU films.

For now, Marvel Studios is working towards producing their own female-led superhero film, Captain Marvel, which stars Brie Larson and is set to be released in 2019. DC can take pride in knowing that it was their film that pushed the boundaries of superhero films with a female front and centre.

Wonder Woman is in theatres everywhere now.
