Joe Russo on ‘Avengers: Infinity War’ and ‘Avengers 4’ Being Different Films

Written By: Nick Poulimenakos

Way back when, Marvel had announced the culmination of all the Marvel Cinematic Universe films with Avengers Infinity War Part 1 & 2. However, the company has since retitled the films with Avengers 3 being titled Infinity War and Avengers 4 remaining with out one thus far. While these films will still build on each other, Joe Russo wants you to know that these films are still different in their own ways.

When talking to at Comic-Con, Russo discussed Avengers 3 & 4 being different creations in a lot of ways:

“They’re all big. It’s important for both movies to be distinctly different. It’s important for them to have different tones, and different narratives, and different surprises for the audience. We’ve worked really hard with [writers Christopher Markus and Stephen McFeeley] at ensuring that the films are tonally different and structurally different.”

Russo then revealed even bigger news. Avengers 4 will actually begin filming in two weeks time.

“It’s crazy man, we just wrapped the first movie a week ago and I start shooting the second one in two weeks. It’s a crazy schedule.”

It had already been confirmed that Infinity War and Avengers 4 would be filmed back to back. From Russo’s words, this would mean that Avengers 4 will enter production nine months before the third team up film hits theatres. While that may seem alarming, if Marvel believes that the Russo Brothers can pull this off, it shouldn’t worry fans.

Avengers Infinity War opens in theatres on May 4, 2018
