Not much has been revealed about the upcoming Hellboy Reboot beyond a tentative title (Hellboy Rise of the Blood Queen) and lead actor (David Harbour).  Now according to The Hollywood Reporter, Ian McShane has been cast in an important role, that of Professor Bloom.  The character is Hellboy’s adopted father who raised Hellboy following his ‘birth’, in 1945.  Professor Bloom had been previously played by John Hurt in the first two Hellboy films.

Ian McShane is known for appearing in a number of films, and is currently a main cast member of Starz’s acclaimed series American Gods.  McShane is an incredible talent and seems like an excellent addition to a promising film.

According to The Hollywood Reporter, the film will pit Hellboy against “a medieval sorceress who seeks to destroy humankind”.  This is most likely the Blood Queen mentioned in the film’s current title. The production is looking to began filming September of this year and will be R-rated.  It will shoot in the U.K and Bulgaria.

What do you think of McShane’s casting in the new Hellboy film?  Leave your thoughts in the comments.
