James Gunn on Which Character Will Influence The ‘Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3’ Soundtrack

Written By: Nick Poulimenakos

The Guardians of the Galaxy films are known for their hilarious and exciting stories, enticing visuals and, above all else, their killer soundtracks. When young Peter Quill was abducted from Earth, he brought his Sony Walkman and the mixtapes created by his late mother, Meredith Quill with him.

However, when Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3 rolls around, Peter will have a brand new Microsoft Zune to listen to music on but this also means that this GOTG Vol. 3’s soundtrack will not be influenced by Quill’s mother. As James Gunn puts it, the next soundtrack will be influenced by his “daddy” Yondu.

Gunn recently took part in Facebook Q&A where he was asked about who would influence the third GOTG soundtrack:

“Volume One and Volume Two have been Meredith’s song choices, her communication with Peter. Spoiler, spoiler, spoiler… in Volume 3 it will be Yondu communicating with him.”

Fans know that during the final battle in GOTG Vol. 2, Yondu gave his life to safe Peter from the literal destruction of his real father, Ego the Living Planet. It is during Yondu’s funeral where Peter receives the Zune from Kraglin who says that Yondu intended to give it to him when he returned to the Ravagers. Kraglin also mentions that Yondu was the one who found the Zune so it can be assumed that he also put at least loaded some of the songs Quill will listen to on the Zune.

While Yondu is for sure not coming back from the dead (also confirmed by Gunn), it’s nice to see that he will still play a role in the leader of the Guardians’ life.

Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3 currently has no release date but keep it locked on Talkies Network for all the latest news and updates on this Marvel Cinematic Universe film!

Thor: Ragnarok is the next MCU film to be released in theatres and it comes out on November 3, 2017.
