Jared Leto’s Joker Reportedly Appearing in ‘Suicide Squad 2’ & ‘Gotham City Sirens’

DC has had quite the day. First, it was announced by Deadline that DC and Warner Bros. were developing a Joker origin film with Todd Phillips (The Hangover, War Dogs) set to direct and that the film would have no ties to the current DC Extended Universe. This means that the Joker in this film is not Jared Leto’s iteration of the character. However, now it is being reported that Jared Leto’s Joker isn’t done appearing in films.

For fans who are looking forward to see Leto back as the clown prince of crime, here’s some exciting news. In an exclusive report by Deadline, Leto “will reprise the role in the Suicide Squad sequel and the Harley Quinn spinoff,” but not carry over his version of the character into the Todd Phillips film.

Leto’s Joker has received… a mixed response. Fans have called his Joker one of the best ever to others claiming he was a Jim Carrey/Riddler knock off. He made his debut in the DCEU film Suicide Squad and despite being advertised as a having a big role, Leto was regulated to maybe ten minutes of screen time with the rest of his scenes ending up on the cutting floor. The actor even told BBC Radio 5 that he had regrets about the villain film:

“I think that I brought so much to the table in every scene that it was probably more about filtering all of the insanity, because I wanted to give a lot of options, and I think there’s probably enough footage in this film for a Joker movie,” Leto explained. “If I were to die tomorrow, maybe the studio would roll something out.”

Leto appearing in Suicide Squad 2  and Gotham City Sirens makes sense. Both films give the actor a chance to actually appear in a DC film with a substantial part. Suicide Squad 2 can finally give fans what they’ve been asking for and have Task Force X take on Gotham’s biggest threat while GCS, which is being helmed by Suicide Squad director David Ayer, could dive even deeper into the Harley Quinn/Joker relationship and showcase the pain Joker has caused Harley after all their years of being together.

I only ask that if they do have Leto appear in these films, get rid of that “damaged” tattoo on his forehead.
