Fans have taken quite a liking to the Thor/Loki brotherly dynamic that has taken centre stage in the Marvel Cinematic Universe and, come November 3, viewers will get to see the adoptive brothers back in action as Thor: Ragnarok premieres in theatres. While their relationship is strained and has always been, fans will get excited when they here that Ragnarok is putting a new spin on it.
Recently, Comicbook sat down with Tom Hiddleston and discussed what his character’s relationship with the god of thunder is currently like. Hiddleston went on to say that Thor has become indifferent to what Loki does which results in the trickster god not being too happy.
“I’ve said this about Loki before, but the opposite of love is not hate but indifference. The idea that Thor might be indifferent to Loki is troubling for him because a defining feature of his character is, ‘I don’t belong in the family; my brother doesn’t love me; I hate my brother.’ The idea his brother is like, ‘Yeah, whatever,’ is an interesting development.”
In Thor and The Avengers, Thor was more angry and emotional when it came to Loki’s schemes but fans saw in Thor: The Dark World that Thor was slowly but surely losing interest in what his brother actually does. Now, Ragnarok has the brothers teaming up once more but this time, Thor won’t care in the slightest about what his brother is involved in. He needs his help to find their father Odin, who, funny enough, was exiled by Loki to an unknown location, which as of now is assumed to be earth. Hiddleston then said that Loki and Thor will rekindle some kind brotherly bond due to both of their current situations:
“The two of them, that’s what I kind of loved about Ragnarok when I first read it. The two of them are placed in such an extraordinary situation where everything is unfamiliar; Their familiarity as family members becomes important.”
