In a move that most will see as expected, Warner Bros. has opted to move up the release date for Patty Jenkins’ upcoming sequel, Wonder Woman 2.
Originally scheduled for a December 13, 2019 release, the Gal Gadot led superhero sequel will now hit theatres on November 1, 2019.
Now, here’s what I mean by this being an expected move. Disney and Lucasfilm had originally scheduled the final film in the Star Wars sequel trilogy, Star Wars Episode IX, for a May 2019 release. However, after Colin Trevorrow departed the film, Lucasfilm hired J.J Abrams to fill in as director along with co-writing a new script with oscar winner Chris Terrio. This move led to Lucasfilm moving the Episode IX release date to Star Wars’ usual Christmas release date.
With Wonder Woman being the immense success that it was, Warner Bros. evidently wants to create the same magic with the sequel and having the film going up against a behemoth like Star Wars might hinder its box office returns. So, Wonder Woman 2 will open earlier which, in my book, is even better for fans.
