After much speculation, Academy Award nominated actress Michelle Williams has finally confirmed her role in the upcoming Venom movie.

In an interview with Screen Rant, Williams announced that she’d be playing Anne Weying, Eddie Brock’s wife in the Marvel Comics universe. Despite being tight lipped, Williams did discuss what it’s like to work with Tom Hardy, who plays the titular anti-hero:

“We’re having fun. For me it’s Tom. I just thought, ‘Well, that guy knows what he’s doing. I’m just going to go steal some of his moves, figure out what he knows.’ You know, you’re only as good as the people you play with and I really wanted to challenge myself with him as a partner.”

Williams then went on to say that she’s still getting used to the sheer amount of digital effects being put into this film:

“I’ve done one other movie where I was asked to track a tennis ball with my eyes and pretend it was a giant creature thing. Not my favorite thing in the world to do, but it is a skill set and I’m trying to learn it.”

On the comics side, Weying is Brock’s ex-wife who assists him in tracking down Spider-Man. Along the way, she is shot by the serial killer called the Sin-Eater and to save her life, Brock’s Venom symbiote bonds with her. She then goes on to become She-Venom (a character who was already rumored to appear in this film). As She-Venom, Weying killed several people, an act that would haunt her until she eventually committed suicide.

Venom is set to debut in theatres on October 5, 2018.
