Rumor: Tom Holland’s Spider-Man May Appear in Sony’s ‘Venom’ Film

Written By: Nick Poulimenakos

Despite reports that Sony’s Venom film will be kept separate from the Marvel Cinematic Universe and that the film will not include Spider-Man, a new rumor suggests that at least one of the statements might turn out to be false.

On the latest episode of Collider Movie Talk, Jon Schnepp revealed that Tom Holland’s Spider-Man will make an appearance in Venom. He asserts that the newest incarnation of Marvel’s most famous hero will appear in some capacity but could no go further into detail.

“Spider-Man is going to be in Venom. For the last couple of months, we’ve been hearing how Sony is keeping it all separated, and Spider-Man is in the Marvel Cinematic Universe, but every other character that’s in the Spider-Man universe is separate. All I’m saying is that Spider-Man—and I’m talking about Tom Holland’s Spider-Man—is going to be in Venom.”

Should Tom Holland actually appear in Venom, speculation can once again heat up on whether or not Sony’s latest Marvel film will have some kind of connection to the MCU. All of the Spider-Man characters’ rights remain at Sony, but they have a deal with Marvel Studios for Spider-Man himself, along with others, to appear in current and future MCU films.

Producer Amy Pascal actually once said that the film would be set in the same universe as every other Marvel film but, along with Kevin Feige, later back tracked on her remarks. Maybe she misspoke on the matter, or maybe she actually let the cat out of the bag too early and Venom might just be Disney and Marvel’s first attempt at an R-rated superhero movie. We’ll just have to wait and see…
