After stepping away from its first sequel, Colin Trevorrow has been confirmed to be returning to the Jurassic Park franchise as he has signed on to co-write and direct Jurassic World 3.

The news was announced by Steven Spielberg in an interview with Entertainment Weeklywhere he was speaking about his latest film, Ready Player One

Trevorrow co-wrote and directed the 2015 reboot Jurassic World for Universal, which became a worldwide blockbuster, raking in $1.67 billion globally. He decided not to direct the sequel, because by then, he had already signed on to direct Star Wars Episode IXThat didn’t work out, so now it looks like he’ll be back to direct the third chapter in a similar way as Star Wars: The Force Awakens director J.J. Abrams is returning for the ninth installment of that blockbuster franchise.

As stated, Trevorrow is co-writing the script for Jurassic World 3 with Emily Carmichael (Pacific Rim: Uprising) based on a story by Trevorrow and his writing partner Derek Connolly. Trevorrow had already been involved in producing Carmichael’s Eon. The film will once again be produced by Frank Marshall and Pat Crowley along with Spielberg acting as executive producer.

Jurassic World 3 is set to debut in theatres on June 11, 2021
