Rumor: ‘X-Men: Dark Phoenix’ to be Final Fox Marvel Movie Before Disney/Fox Merger

There’s a lot of uncertainty revolving around Fox’s X-Men movie franchise right now. Deadpool 2 looks to be widening the X-Men cinematic universe up in a big way, yet New Mutants and X-Men: Dark Phoenix have both been delayed until 2019. Meanwhile, Disney’s acquisition of 20th Century Fox continues to be fine tuned, which would shift a whole new set of X-Men and Fantastic Four characters into the Marvel Cinematic Universe.

Marvel fans have been eagerly wondering and speculating about when we might see Fox’s Marvel Universe finally join the Marvel Cinematic Universe, and a new rumor claims to have the answer! Check out the details, below.

In a new report by Comic Genre, they state that, after X-Men: Dark Phoenix, no more “proper” X-Men films will be made:

“X-Men: Dark Phoenix will be the last proper Fox Marvel movie, presumably also the last in that continuity. The crew behind the camera has been thanked for their work but their services will not be needed any longer, as everything is moving to Disney. Apparently, the X-Men being integrated into the Marvel Cinematic Universe is a done deal, and merely awaiting the approval of the merger. Kevin Feige is “hoovering up” all of the Fox-Marvel characters, and is already planning for them all to go into Phase 4. This includes the X-Men, Deadpool, and Fantastic Four. In what capacity and with what actors was not discussed.”

Let’s unpack this. First, by proper X-Men movie, we can assume that Fox will pump the breaks on making anymore main X-Men films. This does not include New Mutants or any other spin-off’s Fox may have in store. However, considering the fact that Comic Genre is saying that the deal between Disney and Fox is nearing completion, we can also speculate that New Mutants will be the grand finale to Fox’s Marvel-verse. This lines up with both the release date for New Mutants (August 2019) and the report saying the Disney/Fox deal will be completed by summer 2019.

With the MCU set to kick off phase 4 of its franchise with a sequel to Spider-Man: Homecoming, which is also debuting in the summer of 2019, all signs point to Fox wrapping up its Marvel slate and shifting any and all production the house of mouse. Kevin Feige has already said that, should the deal pass, he is looking at how and when to integrate the X-Men and Fantastic Four.

The Secret Invasion comic storyline is rumored to be one big narrative of Phase 4, but a bigger culminating event would be Secret Wars, an event that merged various dimensions of the Marvel Comics mulitverse into one franchise again. It would be easy to do the same with the different movie franchises, and Avengers: Infinity War directors The Anthony and Joe Russo. have already hinted that a Marvel’s Secret Wars movie could happen.
