Box Office Report: ‘Incredibles 2’ Tracking for Massive $140M-Plus Debut

A heroic return indeed, Disney and Pixar’s The Incredibles 2 is tracking for a superb box-office debut of $140 million-plus in North America, according to a report by THR.

The animated film opens in theaters on June 15, approximately 14 years after The Incredibles hit the big screen and turned into an instant classic.

Released in 2004, The Incredibles grossed more than $633 million worldwide. Earning more than $70 million opening weekend, The Incredibles posted the second-largest opening at the time for an animated feature.

The story follows Helen (voice of Holly Hunter), who is called on to lead a campaign to bring Supers back, while Bob (voice of Craig T. Nelson) navigates the day-to-day heroics of “normal” life at home with Violet (voice of Sarah Vowell), Dash (voice of Huck Milner) and baby Jack-Jack—whose super powers are about to be discovered. Their mission is derailed, however, when a new villain emerges with a brilliant and dangerous plot that threatens everything. But the Parrs don’t shy away from a challenge, especially with Frozone (voice of Samuel L. Jackson) by their side. That’s what makes this family so Incredible.

Incredibles 2 is directed by Brad Bird, who also wrote and helmed the first film. Along with Bird, Craig T. Nelson, Holly Hunter, Sarah Vowell, Samuel L. Jackson and John Ratzenberger reprise their roles. New additions to the voice cast include Bob Odenkirk, Catherine Keener, Sophia Bush and Isabella Rossellini.

Incredibles 2 is the summer season’s first animated tentpole feature and flies into theatres on June 15, 2018.
