Geoff Johns Leaves DC Entertainment For Film Production Deal

DC Entertainment’s current President and Chief Creative Officer, Geoff Johns, is taking his leave from executive roles in the company.  According to The Hollywood Reporter, Johns has entered an exclusive deal with Warner Bros and DC to write/produce new content for multiple platforms.  This will be done through his new production company, Mad Ghost Productions.  Through his new banner Johns will produce film, television and comic book related content.  He will also be involved with current DC properties as well.

Johns has held the title of Chief Creative Officer title since 2010, and was named DC’s president in 2016.  Jim Lee, the company’s co-publisher, will now serves as Chief Creative Officer in Johns’ place.

John’s first work under this new deal will be to write and produce Warner Bros’ Green Lantern Corps film, which is promising as Johns is best known for his long and critically acclaimed run on the Green Lantern comic book series.  Johns is also at work on writing the Wonder Woman sequel and has contributed and episode to the new Titans television series.  His other work will include a pop-up imprint at DC called The Killing Zone, which will deal with crafting new stories for lesser known and underused characters.

Other comic book work includes a new Shazam series to debut this Fall, and a Three Jokers comic to be drawn by Jason Fabok.  That series was apparently sidelined due to Johns’ executive commitments, but now the writer is free to continue the Joker story he began in Darkseid War, which was continued with the DC Rebirth one-shot special.
