Box Office Report: ‘Avengers: Infinity War’ Tops $2 Billion Worldwide

Marvel’s Avengers: Infinity War has officially joined one of the most exclusive clubs in cinematic history, becoming the fourth film ever to earn $2 billion at the box office.

Avengers: Infinity War achieved the milestone after 48 days in theaters, one day longer than it took Avatar to achieve the same goal.

Avengers: Infinity War is the fourth highest grossing movie of all time, behind Avatar at $2.788 billion, Titanic at $2.18 billion, and Star Wars: The Force Awakens at $2.06 billion.

Upon release Avengers: Infinity War was the fastest movie to ever reach $1 billion at the worldwide box office. It is the sixth Marvel Studios film to earn at least $1 billion and is the highest-grossing superhero movie of all time.

Domestically, Avengers: Infinity War was the second-fastest film to reach $500 million and its domestic box office total has now reached a massive $655.1 million, making it the fifth highest grossing movie ever at the domestic box office, behind Star Wars: The Force Awakens ($936.6 million), Avatar ($760.5 million), Black Panther ($699.3 million), and Titanic ($659.3 million).

It has raked in a 33/67 domestic/overseas split and over $353 million in China, the third-biggest Hollywood export behind Furious 7 ($392 million in 2015) and Fate of the Furious ($392 million in 2017).

With around $1.344 billion overseas, it has made about as much overseas as The Last Jedi ($1.332b) and Black Panther ($1.345b) have earned during their entire box office runs. That overseas figure ranks third on the list for biggest foreign grosses, behind Titanic ($1.528b, counting the 2012 re-release) and Avatar ($2.07b). The month-long extension in China may help Infinity War become the biggest movie ever that wasn’t directed by James Cameron.
