Ryan Reynolds Says ‘Deadpool 3’ Is Still in the Works

As 20th Century Fox nears its eventual sale to Disney, the company continues to operate under “business as usual.” With one of their biggest franchises, the X-Men series, reportedly set to join the Marvel Cinematic Universe, it has become apparent that certain films will, most likely, not get made. That being said, this hasn’t stopped work on these films.

Ryan Reynolds, who canceled surgery on his arm to fly to China for Deadpool 2‘s unexpected theatrical debut, announced that Deadpool 3 is still in the works at the studio.

His team was already at work on Deadpool 3, he said, but didn’t directly address whether Disney buying Fox would impact the film. He did say, however, that in the third installment, they were:

“looking to go in a completely different direction,” saying that “often, they reboot or change a character maybe like four movies too late.”

It should be noted that, regardless of the Disney/Fox deal, Reynolds would most likely be seen next in Fox’s rumored X-Force film, a team-up that was heavily teased in the acclaimed Deadpool sequel. The film was set to bring Reynolds’ Deadpool, Josh Brolin’s Cable and Zazie Beetz’s Domino together with a more ruthless version of the X-Men team for a black-ops mission. The film was set to be helmed by Drew Goddard.

It’s interesting that Reynolds specifically said “reboot” in his comments. Could Deadpool 3 be a total revamp of the merc with a mouth? The rumor mill as of now has gone silent on Deadpool and other X-Men related projects but a reboot of Deadpool could make for an incredibly funny film.

How do you reboot a character who knows everything there is to know about his own film? We’ll just have to wait and see…
