Joe Anoa’i, also known as WWE star Roman Reigns, and has been cast in Hobbs and Shaw, the Fast & Furious spinoff starring Jason Statham and Dwayne Johnson. Johnson and Reigns are related, both being members of the famous Anoa’i wrestling family. Johnson took to Instagram to share the exciting news.
Reigns will be playing the brother of Luke Hobbs, Johnson’s character in the Fast and Furious franchise. He has signed with Artists First for representation and is making his movie acting debut alongside his famous cousin.
Reigns of course is most known for his time with WWE, where he is a multi-time heavyweight champion. Unfortunately, he had to take an extended hiatus from the ring, announcing that he had been diagnosed with Leukemia, something he has fought before and won.
The film focuses on main franchise characters U.S. Diplomatic Security Agent Luke Hobbs (Johnson) and Deckard Shaw (Statham), who form an unlikely alliance to battle Idris Elba’s villainous character. David Leitch directs the script from franchise producer Chris Morgan.
Universal has set an August 2, 2019 release date.
