‘Aquaman’s Jason Momoa In Talks to Join Denis Villeneuve’s ‘Dune’ Reboot

Legendary is in talks with Aquaman star Jason Momoa to join the studio’s upcoming Dune reboot.

If Momoa’s deal goes through, he would be joining an already star-studded cast that includes Timothee Chalamet, Javier Bardem, Rebecca Ferguson, Stellan Skarsgard, Dave Bautista, Josh Brolin, Oscar Isaac, and Zendaya.

Denis Villeneuve, director of Arrival and Blade Runner 2049 will be directing and writing the script along with Eric Roth and Jon Spaihts. The movie will be produced by Villeneuve, Mary Parent, and Cale Boyter, with Brian Herbert, Byron Merritt, Thomas Tull, and Kim Herbert serving as executive producers.

Set in the distant future, Dune follows Paul Atreides, played by Chalamet, whose family takes control of the desert planet Arrakis. Since Arrakis is a producer of a highly valuable resource, complete rule of the planet is contested among numerous noble families. After Atreides is betrayed, he leads a rebellion to restore his family’s control over Arrakis. Momoa will be portraying Duncan Idaho, a swordmaster in the house of Atreides who is the sidekick to Chalamet’s father, played by Isaac.

Most recently, Momoa is coming off of the highly successful Aquaman, which has grossed more than $1 billion in the worldwide box office. He is currently filming the upcoming sci-fi series See for Apple and most recently voiced Aquaman in The Lego Movie 2: The Second Part.
