Mass hysteria erupted today on the internet as Marvel Studios finally announced that tickets for Avengers: Endgame had officially gone on sale.
Plenty of dedicated fans set alarms to wake up early in hopes of being one of the first in line to get tickets for Marvel’s next blockbuster, and it wasn’t long after that Disney began to rake in the rewards. Avengers: Endgame is already setting serious presale ticket records after just a couple of hours on the market.
According to Deadline, the pre-sales for Endgame on Atom tickets have already tripled the first hour ticket sales of its predecessor, Avengers: Infinity War. The film has also topped the first hour presales for 2017’s Star Wars: The Last Jedi, which set previous records for pre-sale tickets. Fandango is also reporting massive numbers.
The rush for tickets quickly led to site-wide issues for multiple retailers. Users on Fandango were experiencing long wait times for tickets, while Canadian site Cineplex experienced a site-wide crash as a result of the sheer amount of people trying to buy. The AMC website, as well as the mobile, crashed not long after the tickets went live, and a couple of hours later it still hasn’t returned to working order.
Early tracking has Endgame raking in the biggest opening weekend in box office history. Some analysts have placed the film at a gigantic $840 million opening. If any film had a chance at dethroning Avatar for highest grossing film in history, it’s Avengers: Endgame.
Avengers: Endgame hits theatres on April 26. 2019.
