Ben Affleck to Direct and Star in World War II Caper ‘Ghost Army’

Ben Affleck is set to star in and direct a new World War II film from Universal Pictures titled Ghost Army, based on the book The Ghost Army of World War II, written by Rick Beyer and Elizabeth Sayles.

The film tells the true story of a group of recruits from creative businesses like art schools and ad agencies who were tasked with tricking the Nazis into thinking the U.S. had more troops than it actually did. The book focuses on a group of young GIs who are behind the secret mission, their job being to travel and deceive by arming themselves with inflatable tanks and sound-effects records.

Affleck was most recently seen in the Netflix action-thriller Triple Frontier and can be seen next in Torrance and The Last Thing He Wanted. He most recently directed Live by Night and was behind other films such as Argo, The Town, and Gone Baby Gone.

No announcement has been made on when the film will go into production as it’s still in development and Affleck is planning to rework the screenplay. The latest draft of the script was written by Nic Pizzolatto, writer of HBO’s True Detective, and an earlier draft was done by Henry Gayden, writer of the most recent DC Universe film Shazam!
