Box Office Report: ‘Avengers: Endgame’ Enters China With Record $107M Opening Day

The cultural phenomenon that is Avengers: Endgame has already taken the world by storm. Now, based on early data, analysts are predicting the superhero tentpole will become Hollywood’s first film to earn more than half a billion dollars in China.

The wildly anticipated sequel to Avengers: Infinity War, directed by the Russo brothers, opened in the Middle Kingdom on Wednesday, two days ahead of its U.S. debut. Endgame earned an colossal $107.2 million on its first day of release in China. This also includes a record $28.2 million in midnight previews, according to an early estimate from Disney. This makes it the biggest opening day of all-time for an industry release in the market.

Reports indicate that Endgame also accounted for a massive 99 percent of all movie tickets sold in China on Wednesday. Many theatres in the Middle Kingdom had the film playing on every screen, with showings starting every 15 to 30 minutes.

Box office analysts have forecasted Endgame earning approximately $270 million over its five-day opening frame. But some observers are predicting a monumental gross of $300 million domestically, and potentially $1 billion worldwide.

The film has already received critical acclaim from critics everywhere. Praise has been directed towards the performances, visuals, musical, and emotional beats.
