The Polka-Dot-Man is coming to the DCEU.
Ant-Man actor David Dastmalchian is headed over to the DC universe. THR reported that Dastmalchian has closed a deal to star in James Gunn’s The Suicide Squad, with sources saying he will play the comic book villain Polka-Dot Man.
The actor now joins Margot Robbie, who is returning as Harley Quinn, Jai Courtney, back as Captain Boomerang, and Idris Elba. Sources also indicated that Viola Davis is expected to reprise her role as Amanda Waller as well as Joel Kinnaman as Rick Flagg.
Guardians of the Galaxy filmmaker Gunn is writing and directing The Suicide Squad for Warner Bros. Much like in the comics, this film will feature both returning and new members of the Squad. The film is expected to feature the rat-controlling Ratcatcher, Peacemaker (he loves peace to the extent that he will kill for it), and the humanoid-shark monster, King Shark.
This is not Dastmalchian’s first time in a DC film, as the actor portrayed a paranoid Joker-minion in The Dark Knight. He is also known for playing the ex-convict Kurt in Marvel Studios’ Ant-Man films and frequently collaborates with director Denis Villinevue, having appeared in the filmmaker’s Prisoners and Blade Runner 2049. He will next be seen as Piter De Vries in Dune, Villinevue’s upcoming big-budget adaptation of the classic sci-fi novel.
Polka-Dot Man is a fictional DC Comics supervillain who first appeared in Detective Comics #300 (February 1962). Abner Krill decided to launch a crime wave based on spots and dots in Gotham City, where he inevitably came into conflict with Batman and Robin. As the fearsome Mister Polka-Dot, he wore a bizarre costume covered in spots that could be used for a variety of purposes, creating deadly weapons and a bizarre escape vehicle. He succeeded in capturing Robin, but Batman was nonetheless able to save his crime fighting partner and bring Krill’s crime spree to an end.
