The day has finally arrived. The new Batman is here ladies and gentleman.
Robert Pattinson is in negotiations to play Bruce Wayne/Batman, according to Variety. Matt Reeves’ forthcoming superhero film will hit theaters June 25, 2021. While sources indicate it’s not yet a done deal, Pattinson is the top choice and it’s expected to close shortly.
Reeves is the filmmaker behind Dawn of the Planet of the Apes and War for the Planet of the Apes. He assumed directing duties for The Batman from Ben Affleck in January 2017 and has been developing the elusive project ever since.
Insiders indicate that the Affleck was already discussing leaving the role after the mess that was Justice League. Reeves will produce The Batman with his “Planet of the Apes” collaborator Dylan Clark. Pattinson will be the youngest actor to play Batman at age 32.
There is no word yet on when shooting is set to begin, but now that the role of Batman has been filled, we can expect to see a lot more announcements about the rest of the actors joining the production. Filming is rumored to begin starting sometime later this year.
