Tom King Leaving Batman By Year’s End

Earlier today, an article on the website Bleeding Cool put forth a rumor that comics writer Tom King was being forced to exit DC Comics’ Batman title after issue 85, rather than his intended exit point of issue 105. Since then, pop-culture site CBR has confirmed King’s departure from the core Batman title by the end of 2019. The article does mention that King has more projects in the works with DC, which most likely includes the writer’s next project with Mitch Gerads, a comic that has already been teased by King through social media. The pair have produced critically lauded work in the comic book medium, such as Mister Miracle and Sheriff of Babylon.

Tom King has been writing Batman since the DC Rebirth relaunch of the title in 2016, and in the past referenced a 100 issue long run on the title. While it seems King’s time with the caped crusader has been cut short, hopefully the writer will be able to properly conclude his Batman epic in a way that satisfies readers currently invested in the series.

Besides Batman, King is also writing the event book, Heroes in Crisis, for DC Comics. The final issue of Heroes in Crisis will be available for purchase May 29th. Batman #72 will be on sale June 5th.
