Letitia Wright & John Boyega to Star in Steve McQueen’s BBC TV Drama ‘Small Axe’

The Star Wars (Boyega) AND Black Panther (Wright) fan favourites are teaming up to star in the upcoming Steve McQueen BBC TV Drama titled Small Axe. Other names attached to the project are Malachi Kirby, Shaun Parkes, Rochenda Sandall, Alex Jennings, and Jack Lowden.

Small Axe will centre around the West Indian community in London between the 1960s-1980s. The series itself will consist of five distinct stories told across six parts.

In such divisive times, McQueen hopes that Small Axe will allow not only himself but the nation to “relive, reevaluate and investigate the journeys… [of] the first generation of West Indians…” in Britain and the evolution of becoming “black British person[s]” in society. McQueen continues in the interview stating that the stories shown will be “local but at the same time global”, and in turn allowing the series “to confront injustice in the face of adversity”.

Small Axe will be shown via BBC One next year, while Amazon has acquired the American rights.
