A billion dollar Spider-Man movie? That may become a reality this year.
We are just five days away from the arrival of the final installment in Marvel Studio’s Infinity Saga, with Spider-Man: Far From Home. The film held its premiere last night and has received rave reviews from critics, with some calling it the best Spider-Man movie of all time. As the film gears up for a worldwide opening, box office analysts are projecting the film to rake in a massive box office haul.
Far From Home is currently pegged to gross $350-$400 million in its opening weekend. Marked superbly as the last chapter in the MCU’s current 23-film story arc, FFH currently sits at 93% on Rotten Tomatoes. The film will have the benefit of immediately opening in countries like China, France, Germany, Japan, and Spain whereas Homecoming’s release in these countries came later.
As Mark Hughes of Forbes puts it in his article, FFH will ride the wave of holiday’s, school vacations, Endgame hype, and larger number of international markets that should easily combine to drive ticket sales well beyond Homecoming’s. All in all, expect to see FFH land in the $380 million range for a six-day opening total.
The big question is the $1 billion mark. Should Far From Home remain strong, Marvel could be looking at going 3/3 in 2019 for billion dollar films. On the low end, the film will most likely land in the $980 million range.
Spider-Man: Far From Home hits theatres on July 2, 2019
