Emma Stone in Early Talks for Damien Chazelle’s Next Film ‘Babylon’

Damien Chazelle has lined up his next film project, and it’s set to be his biggest undertaking yet.

Chazelle, who wrote and directed the 2016 musical La La Land and the 2018 epic First Man,is again tackling an L.A. story, Babylon, which is set in the 1920s.

Emma Stone, who previously starred in La La Land, is in early talks to star in the feature. She is rumored to be in the running for Clara Bow, the early sex symbol and box-office star, who was Hollywood’s first “it girl.”

Chazelle wrote the script and is attached to direct the project, and is making the rounds to studios and streaming companies. The project is said to have generated immediate interest from Lionsgate, Paramount and Netflix.

Variety noted in there article that Paramount may have a slight edge in acquiring it given the scope of the film and the budget it would require to undertake it. Chazelle is looking for an A-list ensemble to make up the main cast for the film.

Precise plot details are being kept under wraps for now, but sources say the film will take place during the transition from silent films to talkies and will feature a mix of real-life and fictional characters. Insiders compared the film to Quentin Tarantino’s upcoming Once Upon a Time In Hollywood.
