Javier Bardem In Talks to Play King Triton For Disney’s Live-Action ‘The Little Mermaid’

Well, this is certainly out of the box. Following the news that Harry Styles is in talks to play Prince Eric in Disney’s remake of The Little Mermaid, the casting announcements continue to roll out.

Javier Barden, best known for roles in Skyfall and Pirates of the Caribbean: Dead Men Tell No Tales, is reportedly in talks for the role of King Triton, Ariel’s father. The role of Ariel will be played by Halle Bailey.

The news, which was first reported by The Disinsider (who mentions the other part of this news) and later Deadline, state that in addition to King Triton, the film will also cast Ariel’s mother. The search for an actress is currently underway.

Previously announced cast includes Melissa McCarthy as Ursula, Awkwafina as Scuttle, and Jacob Tremblay as Flounder. Rob Marshall is directing the live-action/CGI feature from a script written by David Magee.

Marc Platt, Marshall, Lin-Manuel Miranda, and John DeLuca are producing the pic for Disney. The original film’s composer Alan Menken is back to write new music and will pen new lyrics with Miranda.
