Kevin Feige Confirms LGBTQ Characters for ‘Thor: Love and Thunder’ and ‘Eternals’

Marvel Studios took the world by storm yesterday. After Avengers: Endgame claimed the #1 spot at the all-time global box office list, Marvel took over San Diego Comic Con with the highly anticipated Hall H panel. Not only did they confirm their phase 4 slate, but Marvel President Kevin Feige confirmed that LGBTQ characters will finally be making their way to prominent roles within the MCU.

Feige was interviewed by Collider following the massive panel, and that is where he was asked to confirm that Valkyrie, played by Tessa Thompson, will be explicitly part of the LGBTQ community in Thor: Love and Thunder. He not only confirmed it, but teased other LGBTQ MUC characters:

“Yes that’s the case, and will be the case not just with [Valkyrie] but with other characters in some of the movies we talked about today.”

Feige was then asked what he meant by other films LGBTQ characters would appear in. When pressed if there’s an LGBTQ character in The Eternals, Feige confirmed that yes, that’s the case.

Thor: Love and Thunder will become the first fourth solo film for an MCU character. The film sees the return of Jane Foster, played by Natalie Portman, who will become the Mighty Thor, the goddess of Thunder.

The Eternals is based on Jack Kirby’s strange comic of the same name. The story will follow a group of immortal beings who discover what it means to be human. The film is directed by Chloé Zhao, and stars Richard Madden as Ikaris, Kumail Nanjiani as Kingo,  Lauren Ridloff as Makkari, Brian Tyree Henry as Phastos, Salma Hayek as Ajak, Lia McHugh as Sprite, Don Lee as Gilgamesh and Angelina Jolie as Thena.

The Eternals is slated to hit theaters on November 6, 2020, while Thor: Love and Thunder will be released on November 5, 2021.
