Universal Orlando Announces Fourth Theme Park: Epic Universe

After much speculation, Universal Orlando has officially announced its fourth theme park: Epic Universe.

The company revealed Wednesday that “Universal’s Epic Universe” is currently under construction. Officials from Universal Orlando said it will introduce an “entirely new level of experience that forever changes theme park entertainment” when it opens. The exact timeline for the park opening is unknown at this time.

In a statement, Universal Orlando promises:

“experiences beyond your wildest imagination” via new rides — including at least two new roller coasters, judging by the concept art above — an entertainment center, hotels, retail outlets, restaurants, and journeys upon which “beloved stories expand into vibrant lands” at the property.

The concept art seen above show several bodies of water, multiple indoor rides, and what looks like an outdoor concert venue. The actual park is a larger 750-acre site that almost doubles Universal’s total available acreage in Central Florida. The park will be located several kilometers away from the resort’s established parks: Universal Studios Florida, Islands of Adventure, and Volcano Bay. The three existing parks are all beside each other.

“Our vision for Epic Universe is historic,” Tom Williams, chairman and CEO for Universal Parks and Resorts, said in a statement. “It will build on everything we have done and become the most immersive and innovative theme park we have ever created. It is an investment in our business, our industry, our team members and our community.”

Universal is expecting to hire an additional 14,000 team members across professional, technical, culinary, and other fields.

Categorize this under a rumor for now, but I heard that Universal’s plans for a Super Nintendo World will be integrated into this park. Again, not confirmed as of now, but characters like Super Mario and Metroid may be in the plans for future rides at this new park.
