Lana Wachowski, Carrie-Anne Moss, and Keanu Reeves Returning for Fourth Matrix Film

Lana Wachowski, co-creator and director of the past three The Matrix films, Carrie-Anne Moss, and Keanu Reeves will all be returning for a fourth entry into the Matrix film franchise.

Wachowski will serve as director and producer of the film and will also be co-writing with Aleksander Hemon and David Mitchell. Reeves and Moss will be reprising their roles as Neo and Trinity. Warner Bros. will co-produce along with the franchise’s original co-producer, Village Roadshow.

Warner Bros. Pictures Group Chairman Toby Emmerich made the announcement on Tuesday, saying “Lana is a true visionary—a singular and original creative filmmaker—and we are thrilled that she is writing, directing and producing this new chapter in The Matrix universe.”

The three previous films, The Matrix (1999), The Matrix Reloaded (2003) and The Matrix Revolutions (2003), were all helmed by Lilly Wachowski and ended up earning more than $1.6 billion at the global box office as well as making the Top 10 domestic hits list in their years of release.

There are no details concerning what the plot of this fourth Matrix film will be or when it will be released, although according to Variety, production on the film is expected to begin early next year.
