Marvel Studios’ ‘Black Widow’ Reportedly Features a Robert Downey Jr. Appearance

Fans who were upset that Robert Downey Jr. is done with his role as Tony Stark/Iron Man can take a breather… for now.

RDJ gave the performance of his career in Avengers: Endgame, the culmination of the entirety of the MCU, where in Tony Stark gave his life to defeat Thanos. The film marked the conclusion for the character, as it was confirmed that RDJ would not be appearing in any future sequels. Prequels however? That’s apparently a different story.

According to a report by Deadline, in their coverage of the 2019 Saturn Awards, RDJ will appear as Tony Stark in 2020’s Black Widow movie.

“Robert Downey Jr.’s swan song performance as Tony Stark, aka Iron Man, in Endgame earned him the best actor in a film award. (Downey will be seen in the role of Stark one more time, however, in the Marvel prequel Black Widow in May 2020.) “

Marvel Studios’ Black Widow takes place in between Captain America: Civil War and Avengers: Infinity War, and has Natasha Romanoff/Black Widow (who also died in Endgame), on the run from the government.

RDJ does make an appearance SDCC and D23 Expo trailers for Black Widow, in a scene set during Captain America: Civil War where he tells Natasha to run. It is unclear however, if this is the extent to his role in the film.

After Civil War, Natasha betray’s Stark’s team, and aligns herself with a fugitive Steve Rogers. By the time Infinity War rolls around, Natasha has been on the run for two years with the team, saving the day from the shadows.
