Hulu Not Moving Forward with Marvel’s ‘Ghost Rider’ Live-Action Series

Before it could even get the ball rolling, Hulu has decided to cancel one of its in-development Marvel series’.

According to Deadline, Hulu has decided to not move forward with the Gabriel Luna-led Marvel’s Ghost Rider series. Apparently, creative differences are at the forefront of this decision, as the streamer and Ghost Rider team could not come to agreement on certain aspects of the show.

Hulu is still going forward with their other Marvel series, Helstorm, which, in addition to Ghost Rider, was meant to spearhead Marvel’s “Adventure into Fear” block of the MCU.

The streamer is also developing four connected animated showsMarvel’s M.O.D.O.K, Marvel’s Hit-Monkey, Marvel’s Tigra & Dazzler Show and Marvel’s Howard The Duck, set to roll out in 2020, culminating in a special event, Marvel’s The Offenders.

Gabriel Luna debuted as Marvel’s latest Ghost Rider, Robbie Reyes, in Agents of SHIELD, being one of season four’s brightest spots. The news of his own spinoff came in May, around the time when Disney officially purchased a full stake in Hulu.

What makes this whole situation even weirder is that rumors have been circulating that Kevin Feige wants to bring Ghost Rider into the cinematic side of the MCU. Since Ghost Rider would’ve been a Marvel Television production, it would have been difficult for Feige and Marvel Studios to use the character in film.

So, what does this mean exactly? A few things. First, the news does not mention whether the show is being shopped around, so there is still a glimmer of hope. Second, it is possible to assume that Feige stepped in and argued against the series, in the hopes of including Luna’s Reyes in film, while also bringing in Johnny Blaze, aka the original Ghost Rider.

Whatever the case may be, as of now, Hulu will not be the new home for Gabriel Luna’s Ghost Rider.
