As if the news of Neil Patrick Harris joining Matrix 4 wasn’t enough, we now know the latest original cast member who is in talks to return.
According to Deadline, Jada Pinkett Smith is in negotiations to return to the world of The Matrix. She played the role of Niobe in The Matrix Reloaded and The Matrix Revolutions. The reported noted that this is not a done deal, but we hear that talks are pretty far along.
Niobe is a human from Zion, being one of the rebels participating in the war against the Machines and the Matrix. She is the captain and pilot of a Zion hovercraft, the Logos, the smallest ship in the human fleet with a crew of only three: herself, weapons expert and First Mate Ghost, and Operator Sparks.
Matrix 4 already has Keanu Reeves and Carrie-Ann Moss returning as Neo and Trinity respectively. Yahya Abdul-Mateen II joined the film last week in a lead role.
Warner Bros. announced a fourth Matrix film in August. Lana Wachowski will co-write and direct. Aleksandar Hemon and David Mitchell co-wrote the script with Wachowski, who produces alongside Grant Hill.
The film is expected to begin production at the beginning of 2020. Warner Bros. Pictures and Village Roadshow Pictures will produce and globally distribute the pic.
