Warner Bros. Officially Dates ‘Matrix 4’ for May 2021; ‘The Flash’ to Land in July 2022

Warner Bros. has officially dated two of its most highly anticipated films.

Starting with Matrix 4, the Lana Wachowski-directed sequel to the legendary trilogy, the film will debut in theatres on May 21, 2021. This is places right at the beginning of summer box office season.

Returning to the franchise are Keanu Reeves who plays Neo, Carrie-Anne Moss who plays Trinity, and Jada Pinkett Smith who plays Niobe. They will be joined by newcomers Jessica Henwick, Neil Patrick Harris, and Yahya Abdul-Mateen II.

Aleksandar Hemon and David Mitchell will be penning the script and Wachowski will be producing alongside Grant Hill.

Matrix 4 actually takes the spot that WB’s live-action Akira remake was originally holding on to. Based on the 1989 film of the same name, WB has Taika Waititi developing the remake, but has put the film on hold, as Waititi chose to work on Thor: Love and Thunder for Marvel Studios first.

DC’s resident speedster has had a troubled time getting to the silver screen for a solo film, but WB has finally (once again) given it a release date. The Flash will bow in theatres on July 1, 2022, joining Aquaman 2 as the second DC film for that year.

Andy Muschietti is on board to direct the feature, with Christina Hodson penning the script. Ezra Miller will reprise his role as Barry Allen/The Flash, while Kiersey Clemons and Billy Crudup are rumored to be reprising their roles as Iris West and Henry Allen. Filming is expected to begin in 2021.
