Diego Luna No Longer Attached to ‘Scarface’ Remake

After two years of silence,  Diego Luna, the supposed star of Universal’s remake of Scarface, has confirmed that he’s no longer attached to star in the project.

According to Collider, the actor took the opportunity to clear up any confusion while appearing at Sundance. It was here that Luna confirmed that he would not be involved in the upcoming remake. In March of 2018, it was reported that Gareth Dunnet-Alcocer had been tapped to rewrite Universal’s script and notable writers such as David Ayer, Jonathan Herman and the Coen brothers all were said to have a hand in shaping the project. Antoine Fuqua was said to be directing the project.

Currently, the film is no longer on Universal’s release schedule, Fuqua is still attached to direct, and the project is said to remain a priority for the studio. There’s been no update on who will replace Luna in the leading role.

Diego Luna’s next project is the Disney+ series centered around his Rogue One character Cassian Andor, which is expected to begin shooting this year.
