‘Loki’ Showrunner Michael Waldron to Rewrite ‘Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness’

Not far gone from the news that Sam Raimi would be taking over directing duties for Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness, a new writer has been announced for the film as well.

THR is reporting that Michael Waldron, showrunner for the upcoming Disney+ series Loki, has been tapped to rewrite the screenplay for the Doctor Strange sequel.

Waldron takes over from Jade Bartlett, and it is unknown if any of her script will remain in Waldron’s. The film was initally billed as the first scary MCU movie, but upon Scott Derrickson’s departure as director, fans worried that Marvel Studios was stepping back on the claim.

Raimi’s hiring seems to indicate otherwise. The famed director has a history with horror, and his hiring should mean that the film will not be another conveyer belt entry into the vast cinematic franchise.

Waldron started out his screenwriting career under Dan Harmon and Dino Stamatopoulos at Starburns Industries and last year was writing and producing on Cartoon Network’s acclaimed hit Rick and Morty. He was hired for the Loki series in mid-2019, and the series is set to begin filming in a month.
