The X-Men Cinematic Universe just experienced a seismic shift when one of their most beloved actors made his final appearance in an X-Men film. Logan marks Hugh Jackman’s final time playing the popular clawed hero and now, the actor is looking back at his final outing and speaking out about Wolverine eventually returning to the X-Men movie-verse.
In an interview with The Independent, Jackman spoke about coming to terms with not playing Logan anymore and stated that the character will definitely return without him in the role.
“He’ll come back, just not with me. Well, except on Saturday nights at my house. I dress up! When my kids are not doing their homework, I dress up and the claws come out. I just have to do that [raise an eyebrow] with the claws and it works!”
“Definitely someone else will play the role, it’s a great role. You know, it’s like a Bond or it’s like a Batman, those kinds of roles. Other people will play him for sure.”
Jackman’s comparison to 007 and Batman are not far fetched. Unlike those two characters, Wolverine has been consistently played by Jackman over the course of 17 years and nine films but has achieved the same iconic status that Batman and Bond have.
As of now, FOX has no plans to bring the character back into the X-Men fold. However, if FOX were looking to do something different, they have a prime candidate to take over from Jackman in Dafne Keen’s Laura Kinney aka X-23. Keen stole the show in Logan as the heroine pulled straight from the comics. Jackman himself has said that he could see Keen take over as the next cinematic incarnation of Wolverine so we’ll have to wait and see what FOX will do with Marvel’s most popular mutant.
Logan is out on Digital HD now and will be released on Blu-Ray on July 10
