Kevin Feige & Amy Pascal Discuss ‘Venom’ & ‘Black Cat and Silver Sable’ Films, Marvel Working with Sony

It’s amazing how back and forth this story has been. One minute, these films are seperate from the Marvel Cinematic Universe. The next, they are actually set in the MCU. The argument on which universe the Venom and Black Cat and Silver Sable films are set in was settled when Kevin Feige and Amy Pascal said in a joint statement that the universe’s are separate. In a a recent interview with Fandango, both reaffirmed that the franchises will remain separate and talked about Marvel and Sony working together on future projects.

“All the characters are a part of the Marvel comic book universe. They’re all interrelated in that universe. Spider-Man is now a part of the MCU, as he was created to be in the beginning. The other things that Sony is doing, which are characters from the Marvel comic universe, are independent separate franchises, both Venom and Silver Sable and Black Cat.”

Feige then jumped in saying that audiences fully know which films are in which universe:

“Nobody confuses Lego Batman and Batman v. Superman. and even Logan and Deadpool are definitively not MCU, but definitively awesome movies based on Marvel characters.”

When asked about Marvel and Sony working together on future projects, Pascal had this to say:

“I don’t know about that but if I could work with Kevin all the time, I would. Kevin has been working with us on Spider-Man movies from the very beginning. He didn’t open his mouth for the first four years when he worked for Avi [Arad], and little did I know what was underneath all that.”

Spider-Man: Homecoming swings into theatres on July 7, 2017 while Venom premieres on October 5, 2018
