Manchester By The Sea star Michelle Williams might be joining one of the most anticipated superhero movies.

According to a report by Variety, Williams is in talks to star as the female lead in Sony’s Venom, which has Tom Hardy attached as the titular anti-hero.

According to Justin Kroll’s sources, Williams would be playing a district attorney with a possibility of being Hardy’s love interest. Sony has not commented on the potential casting.

Williams has been on a hot streak for the last few years, culminating with an Academy Award nomination for Manchester By The Sea and is already generating Oscar buzz for her role in Ridley Scott’s All The Money in the World.

Venom has been confirmed to be taking place within a new cinematic universe that will be inhabited with various Spider-Man comic characters. It will not include Tom Holland’s incarnation of the web-slinger and is not part of the Marvel Cinematic Universe.

The film will be directed by Ruben Fleischer (Zombieland), and will be written by Scott Rosenberg (Jumanji) and Jeff Pinkner (The Dark Tower) with Matt Tolmach producing the feature.

Venom is set to swing into theatres on October 5, 2018.
