Damien Lindelof’s ‘Watchmen’ Ordered to Series at HBO

HBO has ordered Damon Lindelof’s pilot take on Watchmen to series.

Watchmen will still encompass aspects of the original groundbreaking graphic novel by Alan Moore and David Gibbons but will also attempt to create new characters and storylines of its own. In a letter to fans, Lindelof made mention that the series is not an adaptation of the 12 issues of the comic but an original story that will “remix” them. Lindelof wrote that “Some of the characters will be unknown,” and that the show would contain “new faces” as well as “new masks to cover them.” Lindelof also wrote that the show will “intend to revisit the past century of Costumed Adventuring through a surprising yet familiar set of eyes.”

The series will be the second HBO series by Lindelof, the first being The Leftovers which just finished it’s third and final season in 2017. Lindelof will serve as the writer and executive producer along with Nicole Kassell who’s producing as well as directing the pilot.

So far, the cast is full of notable names such as Jeremy Irons, Regina King, Don Johnson, Tim Blake Nelson, and Louis Gossett Jr.

HBO’s official description of the series is as follows:

“‘Watchmen’ embraces the nostalgia of the original groundbreaking graphic novel while attempting to break new ground of its own.”

Watchmen is slated to premiere in 2019.
